Arlette Laan has done some incredible things in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and elsewhere. She is a triple crowner, and currently holds the FKT for the woman's unsupported White Mountain Direttissima. Not only that, but she also crushed the first ever WINTER Direttissima with her husband. In our conversation she tells the story of both of these incredible feats in the White Mountains, plus the story of how she met her husband while thru hiking! Arlette's Instagram: @arlette_laan

Tuesday Dec 03, 2019
Nancy Wind, founder of Peaks and Poses, joins the show to talk about the Whites, doing yoga in the mountains, and the spirituality of hiking! We have a great discussion about our differences on that last topics, and it made me think a little bit more about why I'm so obsessed with hiking. I also learned some stuff about yoga too! https://www.peaksandposes.com/

#50 | The Interviewer Gets Interviewed For the Trail Tales 50th Episode Special
Tuesday Oct 29, 2019
Tuesday Oct 29, 2019
Holy....wow. Fifty Episodes! To celebrate, my good friend and frequent guest of the show Baker Bokorney is back, but this time he is the interviewer. Baker thought it would be fun to reverse the roles and take some of the work off my plate this week, so I got to spend an hour answer questions about myself, my hiking history, and Trail Tales itself. I even get to share a never-before-told story at the end of the episode.
Thank you to everyone who has listened to this show for the past 50 episodes. I constantly have people reaching out and showing their support, and I am humbled and grateful for where the show is at right now.

Redline Guiding's owner and founder Mike Cherim joins the show this week to talk all about the White Mountains of New Hampshire! Mike is an experienced hiker who has completed many notable accomplishments. From thru-hiking the Long Trail to Redlining the White Mountains, Mike has many miles under his belt, and we had plenty to talk about. We discussed what White Mountain Redlining is, how there is much more to the White Mountains than just the 4000-footers, and how he was able to take his passion of hiking and turn it into a successful business by starting Redline Guiding. Be sure to check out their website, Facebook, and Instagram.

Should Mount Tecumseh Be Included in the White Mountain 4000 Footers List? Peak-Bagging the New Hamphsire 4000 Footers with Mac Cerullo
Journalist and peak-bagger Mac Cerullo joins the show to talk about writing for Outside Magazine about Philip Carcia's White Mountain Single Year Grid, and about his own quest to hike the New Hampshire 4000 Footers. We discuss many topics about the Whites, ranging from some of the areas we would like to hike in the WMNF that are not part of the 4000 footers list, some of the overrated New Hampshire 4000 footers, and about the controversy surrounding the fate of Mount Tecumseh and other peaks, since they have been proven to be under 4000 feet. Round three with Philip Carcia, also known as Finding Philip! Wrapping up the story of his White Mountain Single Year Grid, Philip goes into detail about the role that social media played in his project, some of his highest and lowest points, and what kept him motivated on the trail, day after day after day. Philip hiked every single one of the White Mountain 4000 Footers in every single month... for an entire year! If you've hiked any of the New Hampshire 4000 Footers or anywhere else in the White Mountains, you know how difficult they are and can probably imagine the strength it took for Philip to complete this goal. He has been incredibly humble about the whole thing, and I am beyond grateful that he was willing to spend so much time talking to me and sharing his story over the last few months.

#37 | Completing the White Mountain Grid in Record Time with Philip Carcia
Tuesday Jul 23, 2019
Tuesday Jul 23, 2019
Since we last spoke in Episode 24 of Trail Tales, Philip Carcia has gone on to offically take the fastest known time for the White Mountain Grid. Philip hiked each of the 48 4000-foot peaks in New Hampshire's White Mountains in each month... for an entire year. To finish off the project, he completed a White Mountain Direttissima, essentially thru-hiking the 48 peaks in one shot, finishing in just under 7 days. Impressive!
In the episode, Philip reflects on the craziness that consumed the project since we had last spoken. He talks about the gnarly spring conditions he faced, how he got less than 10 hours of sleep over the course of the Direttissima, and what his life has looked a few weeks out from when he finished.
