Unfortunately, due to the rapidly unfolding COVID-19 situation, it is likely that Julia "Rocket" Sheehan will have to post-pone her 2020 PCT thru hike. In this episode, we talk about her updated plans, and her recommendation as a thru hiker and nurse for those that are currently on a thru hike or will be leaving shortly. During the later part of the episode, we talk about some more light-hearted subjects and she even gets the chance to tell TWO stories to close everything out. I'm so grateful that Julia was willing to come on Trail Tales twice within such a short time period, and I really hope that people take her recommendations seriously.

Christopher Johnson thru hiked the Appalachian Trail SOBO in 2019. We caught up with one-another on Episode 54 of Trail Tales, but shortly after our conversation he suffered a dire medical emergency while in the backcountry on his thru hike. In this episode he takes us through what happened, and tells the story of how he was able to make it to safety... and still complete the Appalachian Trail! Ryan Fox thru hiked the Appalachian Trail SOBO starting in August 2018 - which is a very unique time to start! He followed that up by crushing a good portion of the PCT the following year, and is currently planning on competing in the 2020 Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon. This dude does it all! We talk about how his Appalachian Trail start date affected his hike, the similarities and differences between the hiking community and the triathlon community, and at the end he tells a crazy story about camping with some homeless folks on the PCT.

The man himself, Darwin on the Trail joins me this week to discuss his upcoming film about the Arizona Trail called 'Through The Great Southwest', the relationship between music and hiking, and much more. Darwin's YouTube channel is one of the most well known hiking channels and he has inspired countless numbers of people to get outside and hit the trail. At the end of the episode he tells one of the craziest stories I've heard on Trail Tales, and it's one that he hasn't really opened up about in his videos. Darwin is the man!

Early Riser thru hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2017, posting on his Youtube vlog the entire way. He has since taken on a very motivational role for future Appalachian Trail thru hikers, posting videos that highlight how to achieve success when thru hiking the trail. Many of these videos highlight the mental side of thru hiking, and are very helpful for those who take mental preparation seriously. Early Riser and I have much in common in terms of how we view thru hike preparation, and it was a pleasure being able to discuss these topics with him.

Kristen Gardella joins me again, this time to discuss all things New England hiking. In this episode we cover four different trails/challenges that exist in the region, including the Massachusetts Midstate Trail, the Massachusetts Tully Trail, the New Hampshire Monadnock to Sunapee Greenway Trail, and the Connecticut Blue Trails Challenge. Kristen is a wealth of information on these lesser known New England Trails, and was able to cover all the basic info that you will need to know about tackling these trails.

Having just finished thru hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, IBTAT joins the show a second time to talk all things PCT. We talk about the crazy winter weather he had to deal with at the end of his thru hike, how finishing the Pacific Crest Trail compared to finishing the Appalachian Trail, and much more. Completing back-to-back thru hikes is an incredible feat; the fact that IBTAT made two cross country walks in two years blows my mind. Tune in to hear about the Pacific Crest Trail, thru hiking, and more!

Rachel Meltzer, host of Podcast Here and creator of Trail Name Here joins the show to talk all about thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, and how it impacted her mental health. She was incredibly candid about the depression she has experienced for much of her life, and how thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail was an attempt at curbing it. She also discusses how thru hiking the Appalachian Trail has impacted her since 2018, and how she is going to be writing a book that address the post-trail depression that many thru-hikers experience.
