What's it like to hike and live in the backcountry for 5 months? Host and thru-hiker Kyle O'Grady, who has completed every last step of the Appalachian Trail, interviews other thru-hikers, peak-baggers, and backpackers who are almost as crazy as him. Is life while thru-hiking really as glamorous as the social media stars make it out to be? Is pooping in the woods really that big of a deal? Find out these answers and more on Trail Tales.

Troy Zohner (Tomcat) joins the show to talk all things thru hiking, peak-bagging, and backpacking. He hiked the Appalachian Trail in 1999, and then went on to complete and attempt numerous other hikes. If you name it, there is a good chance Tomcat has done it!

Tuesday Aug 18, 2020
Tuesday Aug 18, 2020
My good friend Kayla joins the show this week to talk all about her FIRST THRU HIKE EVER in which she completed MY FAVORITE TRAIL EVER i.e the Vermont Long Trail! The Long Trail is tough, and hiking it in a group of 4 is even tougher, so I think it's awesome that she was able to crush it! We talk about group hiking, some of her favorite spots on the trail, and at the end of the episode she shares a story of a bear encounter in the Adirondacks.

#51 | All About Thru-Hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail with Taylor Norton
Tuesday Nov 05, 2019
Tuesday Nov 05, 2019
If you've ever been interested in thru-hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail, this episode is for you! Taylor Norton joins me once again, this time to discuss his recent attempt at thru-hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail. Unfortunately, he was not able to successfully complete the trail, finding himself in a weather-related circumstance that required him to put his safety before his ego. Despite the outcome, he was still able to share all of the important information a hiker needs to know before thru-hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail.

#50 | The Interviewer Gets Interviewed For the Trail Tales 50th Episode Special
Tuesday Oct 29, 2019
Tuesday Oct 29, 2019
Holy....wow. Fifty Episodes! To celebrate, my good friend and frequent guest of the show Baker Bokorney is back, but this time he is the interviewer. Baker thought it would be fun to reverse the roles and take some of the work off my plate this week, so I got to spend an hour answer questions about myself, my hiking history, and Trail Tales itself. I even get to share a never-before-told story at the end of the episode.
Thank you to everyone who has listened to this show for the past 50 episodes. I constantly have people reaching out and showing their support, and I am humbled and grateful for where the show is at right now.

Redline Guiding's owner and founder Mike Cherim joins the show this week to talk all about the White Mountains of New Hampshire! Mike is an experienced hiker who has completed many notable accomplishments. From thru-hiking the Long Trail to Redlining the White Mountains, Mike has many miles under his belt, and we had plenty to talk about. We discussed what White Mountain Redlining is, how there is much more to the White Mountains than just the 4000-footers, and how he was able to take his passion of hiking and turn it into a successful business by starting Redline Guiding. Be sure to check out their website, Facebook, and Instagram.

#48 | A Single Year Grid of the South Beyond 6000; Peak-Bagging with Caet Cash
Tuesday Oct 15, 2019
Tuesday Oct 15, 2019
Thru-hiker and peak-bagger Caet Cash has completed the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Adirondack 46, and much much more. She joins the show this week to discuss her current hiking project; tackling the South Beyond 6000 Single Year Grid. If successful, Caet will be the first hiker in history to have completed the South Beyond 6000 in a Single Year Grid. We talk all about what inspired this crazy project, how she lives the 'van life' in order to make the hiking logistics easier, and a comparison between thru-hiking and peak-bagging. The South Beyond 6000 is not as popular as famous lists like the White Mountain 4000-footers or the Adirondack 46, so hopefully this episode will inspire some folks to get outside in the Southeast!

Thru-Hiking the Northville Placid Trail in the Adirondacks with Jacob Ireland
Jacob Ireland recently completed a thru-hike of the Northville Placid Trail in the Adirondacks, and was kind enough to reflect on his experience with me this week. I also attempted the Northville Placid Trail a few years ago, and through that experience I discovered how tough of a trail the NPT really is. Though Jacob certainly does not regret his experience on the Northville Placid Trail, he expressed his mixed feelings about it on this episode. We talk about why he felt a bit underwhelmed by the trail, and also cover the positive aspects of the Northville Placid Trail (lakes, lakes, and more lakes)! It's always a treat to talk about the Adirondacks.

#41 | Thru-Hiking the Colorado Trail with Scott Hughes
Tuesday Aug 20, 2019
Tuesday Aug 20, 2019
Scott Hughes recently completed a thru-hike of the Colorado Trail, and joins the show to talk all about it. We cover all the essential information that someone contemplating thru-hiking the Colorado Trail needs to know, including resupply, weather, camping, and much more. Also, you can apparently thru-BIKE this trail as well as thru-hike it. You read that correctly. How sick is that! This was Scott's second episode of Trail Tales, as we did an episode way back in November of 2018 about his thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. I am grateful that he was willing to come back on, and share all about his experience thru-hiking the Colorado Trail!

Frozen from the Youtube Channel Outdoor Adventures joins the show this week to talk about his recent thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. We jump all around in this episode and got to cover many topics pertaining to thru-hiking, vlogging, and life on the trail. Frozen talks about some of the good and bad parts about being an Appalachian Trail vlogger, how thru-hiking was able to bring out a more extroverted side of his personality, and how he proposed to his then-girlfriend on top of Mount Katahdin, soon after completing his hike!
