#101 | How to Solve the Adirondack’s Overuse Problem with James Appleton

January 5th, 2021

James Appleton, host of The 46 of 46 Podcast comes on for his second Trail Tales episode. We spent most of this episode talking about the 'overuse' issue in the Adirondack High Peaks....although calling it such is a massive simplification. James lives in the Adirondack Park, and thus has some unique and valuable views on the subject. Even if you do not hike in the Adirondacks, I think there is a lot to learn in this episode, especially as public hiking trails have started to see an increase in traffic over the years.

December 8th, 2020

Nikoline Hamann joins the show all the way from Denmark to talk about her thru hike of the Appalachian Trail! We talk about the inspiration it took to commit to the idea of the Appalachian Trail despite living on a different continent, some of the highs and lows of her thru hike, and at the end she tells a story of how she fell and injured her face... only days away from Katahdin.

#97 | When a NOBO and SOBO pass each other on the Appalachian Trail with Rose “Comics” Turner

December 1st, 2020

Rose "Comics" Turner joins the show this week to talk all about the Appalachian Trail and creating comics on it! That's right, Comics made creating art an integral part of her Appalachian Trail thru hiking experience. Also, since she hiked a good portion of the trail SOBO in 2018, we spend some time trying to figure out when we passed each other (since I went NOBO that same year). November 10th, 2020

Sophia Garber joins the podcast to tell the story of her 2020 Northville Placid Trail thru hike in the Adirondacks. She hiked it very shortly after Flossy and I did, and despite the similar time-frame... her hike sounded way more fun! So if you thought my NPT story was kind of a downer, give Sophia's a listen and hopefully you will get a different perspective on the trail! #92 | A 2020 Appalachian Trail thru hiker answers TOUGH questions about Covid with Rune Ravn

October 20th, 2020

It's no secret that thru hiking in 2020 is a very controversial topic. I usually try to stay out of controversial issues, but due to a number of listeners who reached out to me (and my own curiosity) I finally cracked... I present to you, and interview with Rune Ravn, a 2020 Appalachian Trail thru hiker. I ask Rune to tell his story, and ask him a number of tough questions about covid and the ethics of hiking during the pandemic. I believe it's very important to hear all sides of the story, so I hope you will listen with an open mind. Check out his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/JustAboveU

#88 | CRUSHING the FKT for the White Mountains Direttissima

September 15th, 2020

Will Peterson thru hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2019, and after cancelling a 2020 PCT thru hike he decided to go after the White Mountains Direttissima FKT. Despite no previous experience setting FKTs, Will crushed the route and ended up setting the new unsupported FKT at 5 days, 13 hours and 5 minutes. Super awesome!

July 8th, 2020

Philip Werner is the creator behind SectionHiker.com, one of the first and most popular backpacking blogs on the internet. His website has been an important source of information to me since I first began hiking, so I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to chat with him. We talk a lot about the White Mountains, Redlining, and at the end Philip tells a story that should be a reminder to all experienced hikers that you can never let your guard down when it comes to your safety on the trail.
